I Libertines non sono più un ricordo lontano

Sono passati 22 anni da “Up the bracket”, quel disco d’esordio che accese i riflettori sulla musica indie rock in Inghilterra e in Italia e che fece conoscere i Libertines in tutto il mondo. Dopo quasi 10 anni di progetti paralleli – Babyshambles, Dirty pretty Things, Yeti e album solisti – Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, Johnny Hassall e Gary Powell si è riunito dando alla luce prima “Anthems for doomed youth” nel 2015 e quest’anno “All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade”, che fa capire quanto il quartetto inglese sia di nuovo una realtà della musica internazionale.

Un abbraccio prima di salire sul palco di Villa Ada sulle note di “Total eclipse of the heart” di Bonnie Tyler e poi un’ora e mezzo di puro rock’n’roll in cui Pete e Carl sono ancora i fratelli di due decenni prima. “Avete visto i Pretty Things in un club, i Babyshambles in centro e ora i Libertines in un parco”, dice compiaciuto Pete mentre in scaletta si danno il cinque brani storici come “What became of the likely lads”, “What Katie did”, “Death on the stairs” e “Can’t stand me now”.

Apprezzate le canzoni dei Libertines 2.0, da “Merry Old England” a “Gunga Din”. Ma la chiusura è affidata a “Don’t look back into the sun”, quarto singolo del gruppo, uscito nell’agosto 2003. Tutto quello che è stato ormai se lo lasciano alle spalle. Che ora il futuro musicale dei Libertines sia radioso come il passato. “Spacchiamo tutto” gridano Pete & Carl. E lo fanno.
