Dolores O’Riordan, frontwoman e voce dei The Cranberriers, band rock/pop irlandese famosa per canzoni come Zombie, Linger, Just My Imagination e molte altre è morta improvvisamente a 46 anni mentre era in studio di registrazione a Londra il 15 gennaio 2018.
Dolores Mary Eileen O’Riordan nasce a Limerick (Irlanda) il 6 settembre del 1971, cattolica di famiglia inizia la sua carriera artistica come ballerina di flamenco e fonda nel 1990 la sua band, The Cranberries. Il gruppo è composto dalla stessa Dolores, Noel Hogan (chitarra), Mike Hogan (basso) e Fergal Lawler (batteria) e pubblica nel 1993 il primo album di studio dal titolo Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? e grazie ai singoli Dreams (usato in molti telefilm) e Linger si fanno conoscere ma è grazie a Zombie nel 1994 da No Need To Argue che diventano famosi in tutto il mondo e vincono il premio Canzone dell’Anno agli MTV Europe Music Awards.
Una carriera costellata di successi come la partecipazione al Pavarotti & Friends nel 1995 e l’album del 1999 Bury The Hatchet contenente i singoli e video Animal Instinct, Just My Imagination e Promises, e il successivo disco Wake Up And Smell The Coffee (2001), la band si scioglie nel 2003. Dolores O’Riordan si dedica per breve tempo alla carriera solista dando alla luce due album: Are You Listening? (2007) e No Baggage (2009). Ma il suo destino era con i Cranberries che rifonda nel 2009.
Dopo il Reunion Tour, i Cranberries pubblicano Roses nel 2012 e nel 2017 l’ultimo Something Else, contenente 10 canzoni già note in versione orchestrale e 3 inediti.
